CATALOGUE OF DISGUISE
On 29th June, 2019, TRAUMABARUNDKINO presented its second in-house project, the fashion performance CATALOGUE OF DISGUISE. The project discloses a narrative inspired by contemporary identities within our cultural space while questioning paradoxical lifestyles and translating them through a performance. Driven by different alterations of those characters, three designers collaborated on a collection composed of 12 looks created within the fashion studio of Trauma Bar und Kino. By means of various mediums and creative layers, this cross-research results in a performance, where the abstract story line story line keeps breaking in and out of disguises. Playing with the idea of identities captured within a representation of themselves in our hyper connected, yet disjointed world, melting down in a digital trap.
„Welcome to a room.
Over there, it wraps you up in its weightless susurrous fabrics,
hypnotizes with its warm loud whispers,
seduces by its imperceptive soft touch.
The room, where things that are not meant to coexist are collapsing into one identity.
Being captured in only one of them is flat yet it feels haunting.
You are caught in a representation of yourself. You want to free yourself.
Escaping into/from a digital trap.“

Now you may tell
that I've been SEEN BY YOU
On 24th November, 2018, TRAUMABARUNDKINO presented its first in-house project, the fashion performance NOW YOU MAY TELL THAT I’VE BEEN SEEN BY YOU. Four designers had been given complete artistic freedom to create in our studio. Their collections were presented and told through the myth of Diana and Actaeon, staged by contemporary dance. The piece, in collaboration with choreographer MJ Harper, was a contemplation on the primal expressions of human nature. Fashion was worn and shed like skin, while emotion took physical form through movement, where each collection revealed a chapter of the story. This project was the first in a series supporting local designers to showcase their work.

The fashion program of TRAUMABARUNDKINO showcases fashion as a dynamic art-form within contemporary culture. We believe in interconnection between fashion and other creative disciplines. This belief is at the heart of our biannual projects, where we give a platform to creatives to develop and present the result at interdisciplinary events.
