Using the structures of music as mediums in her multi-media universe, Juliana Huxtable is a DJ and musician singular in her approach. Where her visual art and poetry navigate the complexification of desire in a life increasingly mediated by technology, her music utilizes the sounds of technology itself to construct parallel realities to be inhabited and embodied in rhythm and harmonic tableaux. Her sets skillfully deploy the notion of sampling, and re-blogging as DJ strategies, ecstatically mixing an array of influences that frolic at the boundary of genre-intuition and experimentation. At once an assertion of freedom and an ode to the evolutionary structure of electronic music subcultures, she aspires to the sublime in what can often only be described as witchcraft behind the decks; seance from the stage.

Ziúr is an experimental producer/musician and a fixture in Berlin’s rich musical topography. It seems as though she produces her releases in the way someone scoring a television series does, gathering and arranging their selections for each episode … isolating and apprehending definitive scenes and memorializing their ethos in song. Soundtracks, much like her release “ATØ”, guide the listener through radically different emotional states, yet somehow still offer an idea of what underpins a show’s (or in this case an album’s) particular hues. Ziúr produces music within such a scope, expansive, rich and diverse in texture. The sounds are simultaneously machinistic and deeply anthropomorphic, toying with mechanical isolation and the chaotic spectrum of human emotion. Unlike a soundtrack or score, there is no film to which one can turn to narrativize the music … there is only evocative sounds reaching from each song towards the cybernetic sublime.

Theresa Baumgartner is a visual artist based in Berlin. With her work, she is blurring the lines between AV performance and installation art using experimental filming techniques for her visuals and an approach to stage design that is rooted in fine art and sculpture. Her latest project is a collaboration with Hildur Gudnadottir on her Emmy and Golden Globe awarded score for the HBO series Chernobyl accompanied by Chris Watson, Sam Slater and Francesco Donadello. She has shown her work at renowned institutions such as The Barbican Centre London, MONA (Museum Of Old And New Art in Hobart, Tasmania), HKW Berlin, La Gaîté Lyrique in Paris, Muziekgebouw Amsterdam and highly acclaimed festivals like Unsound, CTM, Sydney Festival and Primavera. Baumgartner is the co-founder of Bestfilmsforever/BFF, a video and media arts collective with an emphasis on supporting females in tech.
